Alexandre Quintanilha
Biophysicist | Member of Parliament
His parents (father from the Azores, mother from Berlin) always fostered his curiosity. Spent the first 25 years of his life in Southern Africa, the following 20 years in the Bay Area, California and the last 30 in Portugal. Was lucky enough to have led numerous research groups that allowed him to share ideas with inspiring people.
With a Ph.D. in theoretical Physics he quickly moved to biophysics and physiology, focusing on oxidative stress to living organisms and our understanding of Risk. Launched and ran several multidisciplinary research centres and institutes, as well as new graduate and undergraduate courses at UC Berkeley, the LBNL and the University of Porto.
As a current member of Parliament, he hopes to consolidate knowledge-based policies.
