Álvaro Vasconcelos

Álvaro Vasconcelos is a researcher at CEIS20 of the University of Coimbra, founder of Forum Demos. He was a visiting professor at the Institute of International Relations at the University of São Paulo (2014-2015). He was Director of the European Union Institute for Security Studies/EUISS (2007-2012) and of the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (IEEI) in Lisbon, from its foundation in 1980 until 2007. At IEEI he was responsible for the creation of several international networks, such as the Euro-Latin American Forum.
Álvaro is a regular columnist in the press and he coordinated and edited the report that the EUISS produced for the European Union: Global Trends 2030 – Citizens in an Interconnected and Polycentric World (2012).
He coordinated the book Global Trends 2030: the Futures of Portugal, Serralves Foundation (2017) and Brazil on the Waves of the World, Coimbra University Press (2017). He is the author of “25 de Abril e o Futuro da Democracia”; “Estratégias Criativas”, “De Trump a Putin: a Guerra contra a Democracia”. His latest book is “Memórias em Tempo de Amnésia: Uma Campa em África”.
Álvaro Vasconcelos is Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (France) and Comendador da Ordem do Rio Branco (Brazil).
