Climate Negotiator | Carbon Markets Expert

Pedro Martins Barata, MSc in Economics, Associate Vice President of the Environmental Defense Fund and Partner of Get2C, is an international expert with 22 years of experience in international climate policy and carbon markets, having served as negotiator on the European team on the development of international carbon market mechanisms since 1999. From 2008 to 2011 Pedro was member of the Executive Board of the CDM to the Kyoto Protocol, and in 2010 he was elected its vice-chair.

Pedro has developed extensive work on carbon neutrality roadmaps, carbon accounting, and design of international and domestic carbon markets, having worked for international organizations such as the World Bank, the European Commission, the OECD and the UNFCCC.

Pedro currently leads EDF’s team on carbon pricing, specifically on efforts to increase carbon credit quality. He is also serving as Co-Chair of the Expert Panel of the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market.
