TED & TEDx

TEDx

TEDxPorto is a TEDx conference organized independently by a local team that brings people together to share exciting concepts, ideas and experiences that motivate human intervention in the Porto community. TEDxPorto is held annually since 2010 and is already a major national event, having always had, since its first edition, a full house and speakers of national and international renown.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth sharing, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, videos of TED Talks and live speakers are combined to initiate deep connections and discussions. These self-organized events are called TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general support for the TEDx program but TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED conferences

TED is a non-profit organization dedicated to the theme of ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’. Having started in California 30 years ago as a four-day conference, TED has grown to support this mission through various initiatives. The two annual TED conferences invite world-leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. Most of these presentations are made available for free online at TED.com. TED speakers include Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman. The annual TED conference takes place in the spring in Vancouver, Canada. The annual TEDGlobal conference took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in October 2014. TED’s media initiatives include TED. com, where new talks are made available daily; the Open Translation Project, for interactive subtitling and transcription and translations from volunteers around the world; and the TED-Ed educational initiative; TED created the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a desire to change the world can receive help to turn it into action; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in organizing local TED-like events around the world; and the TED Fellows programme, which helps world-changing innovators from around the world to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
